There’s no doubt that the HTC One is the best-looking Android phone out there, but if you have been wishing for a phablet instead of the ‘small’ 4.7-inch display, then today’s your lucky day.
Based on information received from their sources, Pocket-lint reports that HTC will soon be launching a bigger version of the One. The forthcoming smartphone will feature more or less the same specs sheet as the current One, but the bigger display has been planned to entice users who have jumped on the phablet bandwagon, an audience to whom HTC’s close rivals Samsung and LG have been catering. Although the website’s source could not confirm the actual display size, it said that the phone will have a display measuring between 5 inches and 6 inches.
Will the phablet play work for HTC?
If indeed word of a larger One is true, then HTC might be taking a leaf out of Samsung’s play book. Samsung is also working on different versions of the flagship, Galaxy S4, with a water-proof version and a mini version in the works. HTC has also been rumoured to be working on a mini version of the HTC One, codenamed the M4, an image of which had leaked earlier this month. The HTC One mini will supposedly have a 4.3-inch display, with a 720p resolution.
It would make sense to capitalise on the great reviews of the HTC One (you can read ours here), but the Taiwanese need to sort out their supply issues soon so that the delay in the launch of the One does not get repeated with any future major products. The company’s executive said last week that 5 million HTC One smartphones have been sold since launch. If only it had launched on time, we reckon that number would have been much higher than the one stated.
