Back in January, Huawei, though popular, was not a brand that easily rolled off one’s lips as compared to other popular handset manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, LG, etc. But at CES 2012, the brand made their intentions known and aims to be one of the best smartphone manufacturers in the world. At CES 2012, the brand stepped up their game and announced the Ascend P1, a super slim dual core smartphone measuring a mere 7.69mm. As per an announcement by Huawei, the brand has now announced the global availability of the Ascend P1, the brand’s flagship dual core smartphone.

As per the press release, “The Huawei Ascend P1 will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Australia through operators and retailers by May 2012, in Latin America from June 2012 and in Europe from summer, with availability in other markets to follow.” Speaking at the announcement, Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device, said, “The global availability of the Ascend P1, which combines smrt features and a sexy design, represents a significant milestone for Huawei Device. We are sending strong signals of our intention to transform into a consumer-facing brand and extend our market leadership globally by strengthening our range of flagship products. We are also expanding our sales and distribution channels to move beyond a focus on operators”

As of now, there is no word on pricing for this handset but by May all will be known. As for when Huawei will launch the Ascend P1 in India; the handset should make its way here by the second quarter of 2012 itself.
