This year’s Mobile World Conference event in Barcelona is said to be centered around the introduction of quad-core handsets on the planet. Most of the talk of these handsets comes from the HTC stable with the brand said to be announcing the Endeavor, which is a quad-core smartphone clocked at 1.5GHz. As per a report by CNET, it appears that HTC is not the only brand preparing to introduce a quad-core handset, the competition this time around comes from Huawei who are expected to launch a quad-core smartphone at this year’s event.
Could we see a quad-core handset from Huawei at this year's MWC?
The brand may not be very popular and they cater to mostly the entry and mid-level segments of smartphones, but as they have shown at the Consumer Electronics Show they are looking to be a brand that can stamp their authority as a major smartphone manufacturer. At CES 2012, the brand launched the Ascend P1S, a 1.5GHz dual-core smartphone with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display. However, the main feature of this handset was that it measured just 6.8mm in depth. This beats even the slimness of the Motorola RAZR, which measures at 7.1mm at its thinnest point. The other interesting feature of the handset was that it was running Google’s latest OS Ice Cream Sandwich, making it one of the first handsets with this new OS.
The brand intends to name the upcoming handset from their Diamond series, hence the D associated with the 1Q in the name of the Ascend handset. The report notes that details of a Diamond series of handsets surfaced in late December, when a website reported that the brand would be bringing them to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, that is to be held at the end of this month. The website states, “Being “a step higher” than its dual-core Ascend models, it stands to reason that the D1 Q may prove to be a Diamond 1 (Q)uad-core smartphone.”
There are no details available regarding this handset, but given the brand’s recent track record, one should expect them to launch something great at the event. Let us know your reactions on whether Huawei can make a huge impact at this year’s MWC.
