After much waiting with bated breath, iOS 4.2 is finally available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. There are some 100 odd features added to iOS 4.2 including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint.
“Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit,” says Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
You can multitask by running different apps and switching between them instantly. Organizing becomes a tad easier, as you can categorize different apps and services and put them in Folders. Mail now features a Unified Inbox, fast inbox switching and a threaded message view. You can now play games and challenge your friends online, sharing scores and achievements or be matched automatically with new opponents around the world, all this through the Game Center.
AirPlay allows you to stream music, videos and photos wirelessly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the Apple TV. iOS users also will be able to use AirPort Express and AirPlay to stream wirelessly to any stereo or powered speakers, or directly to AirPlay-enabled speakers coming to market in the months ahead. AirPrint allows you to print documents on a Wi-Fi architecture through a selection of AirPrint enabled printers including the HP Photosmart, HP LaserJet Pro and HP Officejet.
Theft is one thing that you need to be insured from and now the Find My iPhone (or iPad/iPod touch) feature is free to use without a MobileMe subscription. In case you are new to this app, it helps you to locate the device through a map on screen and a message will be displayed on the device. Users can even remotely lock or wipe data from a lost device to protect privacy.
There are a host of other features which we do not think of mentioning. Not because we think its not cool, but rather we suggest you to go check it for yourselves and perhaps comment and let us know what you feel.
