The iPad is scarcely 4 days out on the shelves and already the OS has been hacked, Jailbroken and embarrassed as hell. Those brilliant… um… developers, the iPhone Dev team are the ones responsible for the jailbreaking of the iPad as well. They’re going to have to change their name now to the ‘Apple’ Dev team, as generic as that may sound it seems quite apt. They have successfully been doing this for all the iPhones and iPods and their corresponding firmware updates. The Dev team posted the news of the break on April 4th. This means you won’t need the App store to get your goodies anymore nor will you have to pay for most of them. Of course you’ll have to forgo the warranty so if something should go wrong, it’s bye-bye iPad. Just like the iPhones, you won’t be eligible for OS updates either unless a jailbreak comes out for that too, like that’s going to be a problem.
According to the report, the Jailbreak has been dubbed Spirit and is possible because the iPad possesses the same flaw that opened the doors to the iPhone OS 3.1jailbreak. You think Apple would learn to clean up their messes, if indeed that’s what they intended to do.
We’re still quite a long way off from officially getting to see the iPad on our shelves however it seems like the Indian gray market is never too far behind. The device is apparently available through unofficial channels for about Rs. 27,000 or so the grapevine whispers. We have no idea what version it is though, My guess is it’s the Wi-Fi model.
