Rumours of the iPhone 5 had started shortly after the iPhone 4S had been announced and since then, these speculations have gathered steam. There have been talks floating around that Apple is readying to launch its sixth generation iPhone by the fall of this year and only until recently, there has been a date to mark on the calendar as to when Apple will officially unveil the next iPhone. The upcoming flagship handset from Apple is expected to be announced on the 12th of September 2012 and would be launched in stores shortly thereafter on the 21st of the same month. If any of you are anxious to get your hands on this device, then this news will come as some welcome information as iMore has recently reported that the preorders for this device will commence on the 12th of September itself.

Commenting on the preorders, the report by iMore states, “A couple of weeks ago iMore reported that Apple would be holding their iPhone 5 event on September 12, 2012. We've since learned that iPhone 5 pre-orders are currently planned to begin that same day, at least in the U.S. Release is still planned for 9 days later, on September 21, 2012.”

Preorders to begin on the 12th of September

If there was a question as to when the handset would touch international shores, iMore has a few details regarding this topic as well. They state, “We've also learned that the second wave of iPhone launches, the ones in international markets, will begin in the first week of October, likely October 5. The information on Apple pre-orders comes from sources that have provided iMore with accurate iPhone related launch dates in the past. The information on the international launches comes from sources that have provided our network, Mobile Nations, with accurate information in the past.”

Besides iMore predicting that Apple will host an event on the 12th of September, various other tech websites have also backed this claim regarding the date of the event. A report by The Verge stated, “The rumor cycle this time around for the next iPhone has been a bit unusual — multiple leaks have all depicted the exact same components — but it looks like we'll be seeing what Apple has up its sleeves come Wednesday, September 12th. Our own sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that date, and multiple websites have similar reports as well.”

Two rumours of the iPhone 5 seem to be consistent for quite a while now. One is that the iPhone 5 will have a redesigned casing with a larger display and the other is that it will feature a micro dock. The next iPhone is expected to feature a major design overhaul and is said to be much bigger, measuring 58.47 mm wide, 123.83 mm high and 7.6 mm thin with a 4-inch display. As previous reports have indicated, the headphone jack will also be relocated from the top of the iPhone to its bottom. Earlier reports also indicated that the size of the dock has been reduced drastically and it is now the size of a micro USB. The screen size of the iPhone has remained the same since it was first launched. Apple is expected to increase the size of the display to 4-inches diagonally. While the width will not change, the brand will raise the height, thereby giving it a resolution of 1136 x 640.
