I've been hearing a lot of positive stuff about Bayonetta in recent times. The lucky few who've had a chance to review it are rating it highly and there are some tall claims floating around the internet that this game will outdo God of War III. Pfft! Yeah right.
Sure the game may offer players an insane amount of combos but combat alone doesn’t make the God of War series awesome. It's everything from story to soundtrack to visuals to the sheer brutality and rage spewing out of Kratos 24/7. Anyway back to Bayonetta again.
So I managed to catch a video review of the game courtesy whitythereviewer.com and I was highly impressed with what I saw. The plot was heavy on the cheese factor but then again a game that attaches weapons to your boots doesn't really aim for authenticity. What really caught my fancy was the gameplay that did look fast, furious and more importantly fluid. It was like Devil May Cry; only done better (Sorry Dante). And Bayonetta doesn't hold back on the gore as well. I saw her conjure up a torture rack of sorts from mid-air only to brutally crush here enemies in a geyser of blood. She then went on to rip the hands off demons and shove it up their umm body parts and even carve them up with a gigantic chainsaw.
The only real issues the reviewer spoke about were frame rate issues and long loading times that were strictly on the PS3 version of the game. Apparently the Xbox360 version performed flawlessly.
While I still don't agree with the claims that this game will be better than God of War III, I believe Bayonetta could be the new benchmark for hack and slash games. Unfortunately we have to wait all the way till the 5th of January for the game to hit stores.
