Honey, I’ve redesigned things! Unless you’ve been living in the Himalayan jungles with no network whatsoever since the past few days, you would have heard about the massive redesign Apple’s upcoming iOS 7 has received. The design is flatter, the UI more colourful and the man behind the redesign is Sir Jony Ive.
Now, while the world has been split on whether or not the UI looks like the next logical step forward for iOS, critics have made their voice heard online. Here’s a new Tumblr that pokes fun and redesigns things – Sir Jony Ive style!
Here's where the inspiration for iOS 7 apparently comes from
Taking off on Ive’s love for gradients and all things flat, Sasha Agapov, an Art Director and Graphic Designer from Los Angeles, put together a bunch of logos and famous artworks “redesigned” by Apple's head designer, called Jony Ive Redesigns Things. The designer even opened the blog up to contributions, some of which looked like they had been deliberately drawn in MS Paint by hand with colours splashed over it like Holi came a year early. The work is colourful, the borders minimal and the results hilarious.
One of the funniest redesign is of a modern version of Mona Lisa who is holding an iPhone running iOS 7 to her ear. Her face is a shade of blue, her features replaced by geometric shapes and the rest of her body is a riot of gradients. It’s followed by a redesign of Steve Job’s ambitious spaceship campus, Instagram logo, Tetris and even a pile of turd. One contributor even insinuates that the redesign has been inspired by a really garish Nicki Minaj outfit.
The design, while extremely colourful, seems to borrow heavily from rival operating systems, especially Windows Phone. You can read more about Apple’s grand OS revamp here and tell us what you think of the flatter, colourful design in the comments section below.
