Samsung’s Galaxy line of phones have had their share of success in the past. The Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note have done extremely well in the market. LG, the other major Korean electronics giant hasn’t been successful in its last major attempt – i.e., the Optimus 2X didn’t too well in comparison. Now with Samsung gearing up to launch their S III phone in the very near future, LG, too has been working on a device of their own. It’s being called the D1L for now and it’s expected to hit markets late next month, in May. The Galaxy S III is also expected to launch roughly in this time frame. A final name for the D1L hasn’t been set as of now, so you can expect that to change. What one should expect, however, is a 4.7-inch display running a resolution of 720×1280. The device is set to run Android 4.0. The news broke on the web through the Korean web site, Digital Daily.

A fast dual-core Snapdragon processor is expected

A fast dual-core Snapdragon processor is expected

The internals consist of Qualcomm’s MSM8960 Snapdragon processor, 3G and LTE support. This isn’t likely to be a rumour as LG officials have confirmed that they're in fact, working on a project, but that was the most they were willing to comment on. After the poor reception of the LG Optimus 2X, LG needs to put out a solid product to be able to compete with Samsung on the high-end smartphone front.

The LG D1L, as of now has the firepower required to take on the Samsung Galaxy S III. While there are no confirmed details on the SIII, LG seems to be taking the fast dual-core processor route. It’s likely that the D1L will house a 1.5 – 1.7 GHz dual-core processor. HTC recently launched one of the newest generation devices – the One X, which runs a quad-core processor. There are those who believe that the S III will take a similar route. The LG Optimus 2X for its time was priced well, but didn’t do too well as a whole. Come May, and we should have a clear idea of what Samsung and LG bring to the arena..
