Looks like LG is not entirely happy with being given the Nexus mantle and rumours of another LG-made Nexus smartphone have been swiftly quashed by the company’s European Vice President.

Wong Kim, VP of LG Mobile in Europe, has told AllAboutPhones that the company will not be making the Nexus 5. According to Kim, getting a Nexus seat, a spot previously occupied by Samsung and HTC, has not helped LG improve its brand image and importantly, profits. Kim said that there is no Nexus 5 in production at LG before adding, “The Nexus 4 was a great success despite the production problems for us and Google. However, we do not need such a marketing success again.” If you recall, there have been some rumours about a possible LG ‘Megalodon’ Nexus phone with the most incredible specs to be launched later this year. Now, we can safely say that it’s only smartphone fantasy.

G2 or Nexus 5?

Looks like this rumoured Nexus 5 will remain a rumour

The LG top exec did not shy away from taking a shot at fellow Korean company Samsung, saying that a product like the Google Edition of Galaxy S4 does not make sense to LG. “We have no plans to deliver devices without our own skins, like Samsung has done now. That has no added value for us,” he said. He added that there will be no more vanilla Android smartphones and that the current flagship, the LG Optimus G Pro won’t get the Google Edition treatment. He also went on to say that the company will be focusing on improving the Optimus UI of its phones by bringing in new features, instead of going for stock Android.

In the same interview, Kim was clear in saying that relations with Google have not strained and LG will continue to work with the search giant with regard to the Nexus 4.
