LG is going to start its global roll-out of Optimus G for more than 50 countries this month, according to a press release by the company. The smartphone has already been launched in the United States, Canada, Korea and Japan and LG is aiming to launch the device in other LTE markets.
“As 4G LTE availability expands on a global scale, we will leverage our strong LTE technology and expertise to offer consumers the best 4G experience through our devices,” said Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics. “With the latest Jelly Bean OS and improved software, Optimus G will make a strong case for the title of ultimate premium 4G LTE smartphone.”
“LG’s long history of LTE know-how is evident in the DNA of the Optimus G,” said Park. “As such, we hope consumers will take a deep, hard look at Optimus G when deciding which smartphone will give them the best 4G experience.”
Coming to 50 more countries
The Optimus G will be available starting at the end of January in Singapore followed by other markets worldwide offering 4G LTE service.
Just recently, LG had announced that the Optimus G has sold 1 million units since its launch. While it may not have sold as well as Samsung's Galaxy S III or Apple's iPhone 5, the figure is still impressive.
If you are still waiting to get your hands on the Optimus G's twin brother—the Nexus 4—you could look at the hack that was created by some members of XDA-Developers that turns the Optimus G into the Nexus 4. Thanks to the hack, the software side would be identical to the Nexus 4, with the only differences being the physical appearance of the device. The hack does this by swapping every LG-customised software element with a Nexus 4 parallel. The hack turns off LTE, caps the internal storage at 8GB and requires using Nexus 4 firmware for future upgrades.
LG had originally launched the Optimus G back in August. This smartphone is loaded with a plethora of features that will surely entice anyone who is remotely interested in smartphone technology. As the first 1.5GHz Quad-Core LTE smartphone to utilise Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, LG’s newest device will not only offer blazing fast performance, but also longer battery life, thinner profile, brighter display and a new touchscreen panel technology as a result of the vertically-integrated development process.
Here is a quick look at some of the main features of the LG Optimus G:
- 4.7-inch True HD IPS+ display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels
- LTE, 3G, EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi capabilities for net access
- GPS with A-GPS
- 13 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1.3 megapixel secondary camera up front
- 32GB of internal memory
