LG had launched their Optimus range of handsets running Android 2.2 Froyo, in order to get their handsets pushed out earlier in the market. Many of their competitors have Gingerbread already up and running and are in the process of getting Google’s latest OS, Ice Cream Sandwich onto their smartphones. In what seems like a better late than never attempt, LG has announced that they will be updating their Optimus series of handsets to Gingerbread, according to a post on their official Facebook page.
Better late than never
According to LG, they offer their thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade and are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The top of the range smartphones from the Optimus series will be upgraded first. The LG Optimus 2X will receive the update from today; the 1st of November 2011 followed by the LG Optimus 3D receiving it next on the 21st of November. On the 28th of November, this year, LG Optimus Black will receive the update. The updates for these handsets will begin in Europe followed by a global rollout thereafter.
LG has not provided any other information as to when this update will spread across the rest of the world. As of now, we have to just wait for the company to announce the same.
