LG’s Optimus One P550 smartphone certainly turned out to be one of our favorite Android smartphones and all that’s remaining (probably since December) is that the OS needs a firmware upgrade. Now it looks like that the Optimus One will be getting a firmware upgrade sometime during the end of May, but then it’s not officially confirmed.
Gingerbread coming soon?
A user posted on LG’s Facebook wall, asking about the date of the Gingerbread update. Apparently, LG replied to the user’s question by answering, “The upgrade of LG Optimus One to android 2.3 is expected by May end & will be available in the Android market.” While it does sound like good news for all Optimus One users, it seems to be a wee bit strange that the response includes that the firmware upgrade will be available on the Android market.
All those who are already accustomed to the grind of updating their smartphones know that Android upgrades are over the air where the user gets a notification on the handset saying that firmware upgrades are available. Also one of the follow up comments by LG say that, “This information is subject to change and confirmation on the upgrade is yet awaited.” So we advise everyone to take this with a pinch of salt! Anyway, it’s good to see the Gingerbread update story come back to life.
