LG Electronics have announced via a press release that they intend to introduce the LG FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) system as well as ‘remote’ customer care services for Optimus smartphones which include the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Black and the LG Optimus 3D. The service is already available in Korea and LG are planning to roll it out to Europe, South and Central America and the Asia Pacific region throughout the second half of this year.

LG’s Optimus range of smartphones come preloaded with the ‘Remote Call’ application which enable users to diagnose phone’s problems without visiting a repair shop. Post registration, LG CIC (Customer Information Centre) agents will be able to wirelessly access the owner’s Optimus smartphone. However, for security reasons, access to personal information – which includes e-mails, messages, calendars or pictures – without the user's consent is prohibited. Using this FOTA system, owners can also update the latest firmware wirelessly.

Remote maintenance services to diagnose software problems have been unheard of in India, so far, and it seems interesting as to how LG plans to introduce this service out here.
