Fedora 18 is out now
Fedora 18 is available in GNOME, KDE and Xfce, depending on your tastes. The default option is GNOME and the desktop environment of the new Gnome 3.6 can be seen running on Fedora’s desktop. The new version of GNOME provides new enhancements to the message tray, notifications, Activities Overview and accessibility support.
Fedora 18 includes many updates to language and programming environment, including fresh versions of Python, Rails, D and Perl. Also added to the distribution are Clojure tooling packages and libraries. SystemTap has also been updated to the 2.0 release. This extends its capabilities for instrumenting code and other diagnostic capabilities, and gives those abilities to a greater pool of user access levels.
Other new things in the update include enhancement to storage management with tools and libraries for SAN and NAS management, and the addition of System Storage Manager, which is a unified command-line interface for managing multiple storage technologies. It also has oVirt Engine, which is a management application for the oVirt virtualisation platform. The latest version brings new features and Eucalyptus, which is a platform for on-premise Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) clouds.
Last but not the least, Fedora 18 brings new releases of OpenStack – Heat – which enables the orchestration of cloud applications using file or web-based templates.
