One of the game franchises that pioneered an entire genre is the Metal Gear Solid series, brainchild of Hideo Kojima. Konami has the latest iteration of the popular franchise in the works, as the company is hiring developers for the game, though no official statement has been made about a Metal Gear Solid 5 so far. Recently, motion-capture actor Erick Bossick said in an interview that he is working with Kojima Productions “on a future Metal Gear” game.
In the interview Bossick said, “My past motion capture session was for upcoming Metal Gear game.” He continued, “I will be back with Kojima again in the fall, and maybe other sessions. This title is a long way off. I am working on a future Metal Gear, not to be released until next year, summer at the earliest, if not later than that. I’m doing motion capture only. I can 100 percent say my voice will not be involved in this. I don’t even know what the title is, they are all very secretive and sometimes even the scenes I act out I don’t even know the full story, because they want to keep it secret.”
“I suppose it is fine to mention I am working on it, everybody knows Kojima is making something now, and I posted the photo on my page here with him. The only thing is that I can’t ever answer any questions about it or talk about, not for sometime.”
Here's hoping the sequel has more gameplay than Metal Gear Solid 4 did
Though there isn’t any information about a Metal Gear Solid 5, we’re headed closer towards the release of the spin-off title, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Where Metal Gear Solid is the story of Solid Snake (and in some cases, his father Naked Snake), Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be the story of Raiden, the child soldier turned cyborg ninja.
The developers of Metal Gear Rising, Platinum Games, had released a new trailer for the game last week during Gamescom. The trailer shows off some of the over-the-top action sequences that will be in the game, such as hopping on missiles that have been shot at you to get to a helicopter so you can destroy it with your sword. The trailer also mentions some of Raiden’s back story and makes references to him being a child soldier and having been mind controlled.
The game is set in the near future, where cyborg technology has become commonplace throughout society. Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots system that had been secretly controlling the global power balance from the shadows. However, peace remains elusive. The dissemination of cybernetic technology has triggered instability and conflict as those who control the trade gain increasing power. Furthermore, large ‘Private Military Companies’, or PMCs that had been supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, spawning countless rogue entities with origins to larger criminal organisations. These renegade PMCs employing cyborg technology have become increasingly more disruptive, shifting policy and power at will. As a member of the peace-keeping PMC ‘Maverick Security’, Raiden lives by the mantra of protecting and saving lives. But as the world plunges further into asymmetric warfare, the only path that leads him forward is rooted in resolving his past and carving through anything that stands in his way.
