I personally loved the CES 2011 advert Motorola had shown quite a while back. They took things upfront with Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, calling them a “giant iPhone” and an “Android meant for a phone”! While there are now two advertisements of Xoom out on the web, these don’t look half as impressive as the first.
The first one we’re going to see is a teaser released on YouTube. It starts off with a picture of earth in 2011. Time travels back and 2011 undergoes a countdown to 1984, followed by saying “2011 looks a lot like 1984” and then you see Xoom specs flying around. The ad ends with a Motorola logo and a caption below, “It’s time to live a free life.” A real dud this.
What you’ll see below is just a 15 second clip of the full advertisement to be shown at the Super Bowl this Sunday. Although not exactly a parody of Apple’s 1984 ad, we’ll have to see it in full before judging. It starts off with the protagonist walking amongst robot-slaves clad in white hoodies, baggy pants and listening to familiar looking white earbuds. Obviously that’s not the protagonist’s apparel while he reads a novel, locates a florist on his Xoom and then carrying a bouquet of flowers enters a metro. Oh wait, looks like he’s followed by this cute chick who’s also a part of the all-in-white robot slaves. What next?
That’s about it alright. So as we said, the first one is average Joe really we have our fingers crossed on the second! Oh by the way, you can have a look at Apple’s 1984 Macintosh commercial below.
