The Mozilla organisation, developer of the open-source browser Firefox, has now made available two developer smartphones for testing out its new mobile OS.

Mozilla is also currently holding its Firefox OS App Days, a twenty-day event to allow developers to create apps for the Firefox OS.

The two smartphones that Mozilla is previewing are being developed by Geeksphone in partnership with Telefonica. The group hopes to make these smartphones available in February.

The details of the two smartphones are below:

The Keon model

• It has Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor clocked at 1Ghz
• The device has a 3.5-inch multitouch screen.
• It also has a 3 MP Camera
• The device has 4GB space and 512 MB RAM
• The device supports 3G and 2G

The Peak model

• It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2Ghz.
• It supports 3G and 2G.
• This one has a 4.3 HD multi-touch screen with In-Panel switching (IPS)
• It has an eight megapixel rear camera and a two megapixel front camera.
• The device has 4 GB space and 512 (RAM).

As Mozilla’s blogpost reads, the new OS will rely on HTML5, CSS, Java for apps and the attempt will be to ensure that you are not locked in to a vendor-controlled ecosystem. App developers can distribute theirapps through the Firefox Marketplace, their own website, or any other store based on Mozilla’s open app store technology.
