Okay, we’ve heard of eco-friendly smart phones, we’ve also heard of Sony Ericsson’s Greenheart commitment that aims at providing users with the most environment friendly phones. But guess what, a British student has managed to take all these terms to an altogether different level with his new smartphone, the ADzero. As reported by the Telegraph, this phone is slated to launch in a few months time, from now.

The bamboo phone!

Now, as you can see, the design and build is remarkably different from your normal run of the mill smartphone. This one is built out of bamboo that has been organically grown over the past four years. It’s undergone treatment to stay durable and strong. Now for the more familiar part. The ADzero will run on Google’s Android operating system. We don’t have any details about the version, yet.

The guy who got this design to reality, Kieron Scott-Woodhouse mentioned that the phone was designed in his leisure time, because he was tired of seeing the astonishing similarity amongst the current generation of phones. He posted his designs on the Internet and soon thereafter, a technology entrepreneur got in touch with him, to set the ball rolling.

The ADzero is half of the weight of the iPhone and will come with a ring flash, instead of the more square-ish one, we’ve seen on regular phones. He’s put that for clear illumination of the subject. Earlier, the phone was only to be sold in the Chinese market, but an increasing number of enthusiasm from locals meant that the phone will soon come to its homeland as well. The full time student at Middlesex’s Product Design course mentioned that, “Bamboo may seem like a strange material to use for a phone, but it’s actually extremely strong and very durable, perfect qualities for this kind of application.” Along with this, his tutor also mentioned that his student is one ‘remarkable designer’.

Besides this, no other details about the phone’s specifications or availability has been disclosed. More images and details about this upcoming Android smartphone made out of bamboo is available here. What do you guys think about this bamboo phone?
