It had been recently reported that the Android 4.2.1 update for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 had started rolling out across the globe. It had been predicted that other Nexus devices such as the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 would also be receiving the latest software soon and right on cue, Google has started rolling out Android 4.2.1 to these devices as well.
If one is using a Galaxy Nexus smartphone, the update is available for those using the Takju and Yakju versions of the handset. The update is available as an over-the-air update and the software is still in the process of being rolled out. If one does not see the option to update their device, then you need not worry as it should roll out soon enough. However, XDA has provided download links if one wants to manually update their handsets. Those with a custom recovery mode can download the zip file, copy it on to your device and flash it through the same.
Jelly Bean update starts rolling out to other Nexus devices
A few days ago, a strange issue for devices running on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform was reported. The entire month of December was missing in the People app.
Based on the posts issued by users of the latest Nexus devices, the update is just 1.1MB and the build is dubbed JOP40D. The major feature of this version is that it addresses the December event glitch that had been prevalent in the earlier build of Android 4.2. With this update, all other features remain the same as the previous version.
A few days back it was reported that Google had promised that a fix would be available soon. In an official post, Google had acknowledged that it discovered a bug in the app update that left out the month of December in the People app. The niggling bug facing users of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean clearly meant that those with birthdays, anniversaries or other important events scheduled for the month would be left in an odd spot.
Google wrote in its post, “We discovered a bug in the Android 4.2 update, which makes it impossible to enter December events in optional fields of the People app (this bug did not affect Calendar). Rest assured, this will be fixed soon so that those of you with December birthdays and anniversaries won't be forgotten by your friends and family.”
It appears that Google held on to its promise and issued the update on time.
Google announced Android 4.2 last month, and this version still retains the Jelly Bean branding like Android 4.1. The camera app of Android 4.2 now features the Photo Sphere, which enables users to take high resolution, 360-degree photographs on all axes, giving the pictures a look much like Google Street View. You will instantly be able to share the photograph on whatever medium you desire, including Google Maps, if you want to make the picture public.
The new keyboard, making its debut in Android 4.2, supports gesture-typing. This allows you to type out words without having to tap on the screen, and instead, sliding your finger across the keyboard over letters that are part of the word. This is a lot like the Swype keyboard by Nuance that is commonly found pre-installed on Samsung devices.
