Late last month, Nokia had announced that the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 would be officially launched in India in November, and this would usher in the first of Lumia handsets running on the Windows 8 platform. However, our sources have now informed us that Nokia has not finalised the date of the launch of these handsets yet. There is no word about the date of the official availability of these smartphones in India.
According to a related report by BGR, India was included in error in the global press release, and that BGR's sources have informed it that India would not feature in the first wave of countries receiving the handsets.
The Lumia 920 coming to India at an unknown date
The report states, “Turns out India wasn’t supposed to be mentioned in that press release and it was an error. A Nokia India spokesperson has confirmed the same to BGR India and Nokia India will announce the availability details as soon as they freeze on the launch date. We were told by our sources that the phones were currently being tested extensively with all carriers in India to ensure that they don’t face any issues after the launch.”
In the recent past, Nokia has not been on the ball with rolling out its Lumia handsets. The company has only recently launched the Nokia Lumia 900 in India. The handset cannot be upgraded to the Windows Phone 8 platform. Nokia has a vast audience in India, but the brand would need to launch its products quickly in India if it needs to keep up with the likes of Samsung.
The HTC 8X and 8S, the biggest competitors to the Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 have already been announced for India and the launch date is just around the corner. With these handsets making their way to India, they would definitely steal some of the shine away from the Nokia Lumia devices as they also do have specifications that can easily rival them.
The Nokia Lumia 920 includes the latest Nokia PureView camera, which the company claims captures five times more light than competing smartphones. It gives bright pictures without flash, even indoors, and at night. It also features built-in wireless charging, making it easy to keep the battery topped up throughout the day, as well as a better-than-HD display.
The Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 810, and Nokia Lumia 822 offer exchangeable covers in a range of colours. Both phones have the option to add wireless charging, have a sensitive touchscreen, and Nokia ClearBlack display technology. All phones come with the full suite of Nokia navigation applications, including Nokia City Lens, and Nokia Music that streams unlimited music directly to the phone.
Nokia first took the wraps off its Lumia 920 at the Nokia World 2012 event in New York City. The Nokia Lumia 920 will pack in a Snapdragon S4 and a PureView sensor. It also comes with the Blink app, which is the smartphone's Burst mode. The smartphone will feature an LCD display, which is a little higher than the HD displays available now. With a polycarbonate body the phone will be available in many colours.
