The Nokia Lumia 800 has been plagued with battery issues ever since the device was launched. This obviously did not sit well with consumers of the smartphone and they voiced their opinion on various forums and Nokia related support sites. Following this outburst from users, Nokia issued a statement in December stating that there was indeed an issue with the battery life and it would be addressed by a software update that would be rolled out by early 2012. Nokia did issue a software update towards the latter half of January but this did not solve many people’s woes regarding the battery life. Later on the brand announced another software update which fixed certain problems regarding the camera. However, the battery issue was not yet dealt with. The Finnish smartphone manufacturer has now announced that they have released a global rollout for the Lumia 800 which will significantly boost the battery life.
Nokia Lumia 800 unboxing
As per the blog post by Nokia, the brand states, “Since launching the Nokia Lumia 800 late last year, we’ve been focused on delivering continuous enhancements to the phone through software updates. Today, we’re happy to announce the third software update in only four months. This software version for the Lumia 800 (1600.2487.8107.12070) brings significant improvements in battery performance and power management. Originally scheduled for 18 April, we’ve now managed to bring the schedule forward.”
Though this is a global release of the update, it will not hit all Lumia 800 handsets at the same time; instead in a phased manner across the next four weeks beginning from the 28th of March. The brand states that subsequent updates will take place on the 4th, 11th and 18th of April. The author of the post claims, “Since I updated my phone, my personal experience – on average these last two weeks – has been between 25 to 30 hours of battery life with my daily usage pattern: numerous phone calls and text messages, browsing, push email on three mail accounts, some music to and from work, some GPS (Drive and Maps) – and with the phone in flight mode for about 5 hours when I sleep.” Judging by his statement, it appears that Nokia have indeed addressed this issue that has been hampering a number of Lumia 800 handsets.
Besides this battery fix, the brand has also improved on the audio of the device by bringing enhancements to the bass and the soft keys illuminate at all brightness levels. If any of you have updated your handset, let us know if they have indeed worked for you.
