NVIDIA has decided to refresh its Mobile GPU series by bringing in the 500M chipsets to replace the current 400M range of GPUs. But if you were expecting a major jump in performance, then it's best you don’t hold your breath.
The GT 540M is similar to the GT 435 in terms of specs, with both sporting 96 CUDA cores and 128MB memory interface. But this is where NVIDIA has tweaked the GPU, by upping the graphics and processor clock to 672 MHz and 1344 MHz respectively while pushing the onboard memory to 900 MHz.
The GT 540M has DirectX 11 support along with the usual suspects such as PhysX, 3D Vision and CUDA. The refresh will hit China first, courtesy of Acer, while the rest of the world will get the GT 540M sometime next year.
