It is no surprise that when Apple introduces new operating system, a range of their older devices fail to receive the latest features that the Cupertino brand has to offer. This is the case with the iOS software for their iPhones, iPads and iPods, as well as the case with the OS for their Mac range of computers. So Apple’s latest operating software for their Macs was announced yesterday and with it came a range of interesting features that virtually bridges the gap between iOS and OS X. This operating software was made to have better compatibility with Apple’s iCloud and the brand has brought a range of apps found on iOS devices to the Mac. These apps, include Messages, Notes, Reminders and Game Center to the Mac, Notification Center and various others. However, as mentioned earlier, some of their older Macs will not receive this update.

Will not prowl on all Macs

As per a report by OSXDaily, the website states that only a few Apple computers are eligible for the update to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Those owning a MacBook Pro measuring 13 inches, which launched in mid-2009 and those that were launched thereafter can update to the OS. 17 and 15-inch MacBook Pros from late 2007, and later can avail of the new OS. The late 2008 and succeeding editions of the MacBook Air can update to OS X 10.8. iMacs from mid-2007, MacBook 13-inch aluminium from 2008, MacBook 13-inches from 2009, Mac Minis and XServe from early 2009 and Mac Pro from early 2008 are all capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion.

These are mostly the newer devices that will receive the operating system upgrade and all devices prior to this will be left out of the update cycle. As of now, OS X 10.8 is only available for developers and it will become available to the public, later this year.

Do you think that with these new features that come with Mountain Lion the brand is building a close knit ecosystem where one would not require any other but just their products? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
