Resident Evil 6 is inching closer to its release date, and we have hardly any information about how Capcom will be handling the PC version of the game. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Capcom is taking the PC version of Resident Evil 6 seriously and will be outsourcing the port to a different studio.
Senior VP of Capcom, Christian Svensson, said, “It is a small, but appropriately sized team working on the RE6 PC project. It is a different group than originally planned, lest it would have taken even longer than it currently will but this team will do a better job than what was being considered originally.
The process did not begin until after the console versions were complete, submitted, approved by console 1st parties to use that final codebase as the starting point.
It will be some time still before we provide details on release dates and PC specific parameters.
Projects like this you guys seem to think are “trivial” but they are not. When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC… which I don’t think too many true fans were pleased with.”
The PC port of Resident Evil 6 won't be as trivial as Resident Evil 4
It was recently revealed that Resident Evil 6 will have three multiplayer modes that will be sold as downloadable content (DLC). The DLCs are to be timed exclusives for the Xbox 360, with no word from Capcom about the PlayStation 3 or PC versions for the DLCs. The three multiplayer modes include Predator mode, Siege mode and Survivor mode.
In Predator mode, one player plays the “Ustanak”, who is a huge monster, reminiscent of the Tank from Left 4 Dead. The Ustanak has to go around the map and kill all the other players. Siege mode is a team based escort mission mode where one team has to keep an NPC alive while the other team has to kill it. The third mode, Survivor mode, is a team-based mode where one team has to survive the other team’s (who are zombies) attempts to kill them. If a survivor dies in this mode, he respawns as a zombie and the game becomes a last-man-standing ordeal.
Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s most successful franchises yet. Resident Evil 6 was originally set to have three playable characters – Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jake Muller, all three with their own storylines that will eventually converge. Though recently, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu revealed that Resident Evil 6 will feature a fourth campaign that can be unlocked. The fourth campaign will feature Ada Wong as a playable character and will be unlocked once the three main campaigns of the game have been cleared.
In an interview with Famitsu, Executive Producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi talked about some of the details about Ada’s campaign. “Ada’s story will clear up the mysteries from the other scenarios,” said Kobayashi. “Her scenario is played solo, without a partner character. When playing as Leon and the other main characters, you may end up encountering other players who are controlling Ada”.
Another big feature for Resident Evil 6 is Residentevil.net. The free online service got a trailer back in August, which showed off many of the features of the service, such as giving Capcom the capability to hold events, which will reward gamers with in-game items such as skins. An example of one such event, according to Capcom, is, “let's say one weekend the goal is to kill 10,000 zombies. Everyone who has an RE.net account and plays during that time period will receive RE.net points that can be redeemed on the site for a variety of goodies – chief among them new costumes that appear in the actual game”.
Resident Evil 6 is scheduled for a release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 across Europe and North America on October 2. A PC version is set to follow soon.
