LG's current flagship, the Optimus G, is yet to hit Indian shores, but the company’s next version of the phone (and possibly its next flagship) has already been leaked. PhoneArena has got hold of a couple of images of the Optimus G Pro: one shows the phone while the other one reveals its specs through an internal training document. The LG's 2013 flagship Optimus G Pro will go up against the likes of the Sony Xperia Z, the upcoming HTC M7 and the Galaxy S4. So it naturally brings the some of the best hardware to the dogfight.

The leaked pictures show that the LG Optimus G Pro will have a 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS-LCD screen. That should be enough to grab attention, but LG has really gone the whole hog with this one. Also featured in the Optimus G Pro is the 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 4G LTE radio, 2 GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2.1 megapixel front-facing shooter, both of which are capable of recording 1080p video, just like on its 5-inch predecessor.

The website’s source sent them a live shot of the LG Optimus G Pro for the Korean carrier LG U+, which shows a thin side bezel and a slim physical home key underneath the display, a design trait left over from the Optimus G. The back of the phone suggests LG has gone with polycarbonate or plastic construction for their flagship. A chrome ring adorning the camera lens also looks like a new design flourish.

LG has also included a huge battery in the Optimus G Pro, as befits a phone with a full HD screen and a quad-core processor. The phone, which is slated to launch in the first half of the year, will apparently sport a massive 3140 mAh battery. It will also allegedly have 32GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot, which will support cards up to 64GB.

The Korean company has been seeing an upturn in fortunes of late, thanks to the success of the Optimus G in the US and the worldwide demand for the Nexus 4. An upgraded Optimus G was launched in Japan recently. The Japanese version for NTT DoCoMo has a 5-inch, a full HD display and a 3,000 mAh battery, but there are still murmurs about another LG smartphone with a larger display, which have now been given some credence.

There are other interesting bullet points in the specs sheet, like a Slim port with “HDMI and RGB” output. But we will have to wait for the official announcement to get more clarity on that. LG is expected to announce some of its 2013 smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, later this month.
