Pinterest, the social bookmarking service, has launched applications for Android and iPad, and has updated its iPhone app. Elaborating on the launch, an official blog post by Pinterest says that the app is a result of its users constantly asking about one. The Pinterest app for Android devices “makes it simple and fast to pin”. The makers assure that the app has been made such that it works well on both Android phones and tablets irrespective of the device's cost, speed or screen size.
Pinterest introduces Android, iPad app
As for the iPad application, Pinterest makers add that iPad owners “may have the best Pinterest experience yet”. Pinterest enables users to discover, save and organize all that interests them. Using the app on the iPad, users can swipe the screen to get back to browsing once they are done viewing a board. They can also use the embedded browser to see what others are pinning.
Pinterest now has a redesigned app for its iPhone users, following a request for more pins. The redesigned app makes way for a 2-column layout, allowing users to view more, to help them find what they are looking for.
The official post by Pinterest adds, “When we think about what we’re designing at Pinterest, we think about giving everyone a place to dream, plan, and prepare for the things in their lives. The Pinterest apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android are about enabling you to do just that, not seated in front of a computer or at the office, but wherever you go as you live your life”.
In March this year, Ben Silbermann, one of the founders of the social sharing service, said in an interview with the New York Times that Pinterest would come to the iPad, before it does to the Android. However, he specified no date for the release of the apps. Owing to the visual nature of the social sharing service, it makes sense to expand to a platform with more screen space.
The Pinterest app is present on Facebook in the desktop and mobile versions. Pinterest is one of the Open Graph applications that Facebook released earlier this year. The app ties directly into a user's Timeline, and displays as a box, if the user has allowed Pinterest access to his or her profile. This not only benefits Pinterest with advertising but also provides the service with a lot of information about its users. Also, when a user signs up using Facebook, Pinterest automatically makes that user follow all his or her Facebook friends who are also signed up on Pinterest.
The apps are now available for download at Apps.Pinterest.com.
