Last year at CommunicAsia 2010, Altek showcased a 14 megapixel camera phone running on the Android platform. Although, we haven’t seen hair nor hide of the handset post that, the technology has been in the works to update and better mobile phone camera technology. Only recently, a 12.6mp camera sensor for mobile handsets was announced but that’s not really thrilling.
Wow! That's all I can say
In an effort to be ‘thrilling’, a recent video that made it out, apparently from HTC, talks about mobile phone camera technology and also features a new, snazzy looking handset that’s said to have… (pause for dramatic effect)… a 16 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. This is a serious step for the mobile phone maker as their HTC EVO 3D with dual cameras for capturing media in 3D is getting ready to make big waves and compete with LG’s Optimus 3D tablet.
The OS, from what it looks like in the video is Windows Phone 7, which personally, I believe to be a good choice of OS for such a product as the chances of us seeing the device might be in a time when the OS is a little more beefed up.
This is well to get things started as Samsung , Sony Ericsson and Nokia who all have high end camera phones, will most likely try to counter this bold move. What concerns me is how this will affect the digicam, point and shoot market of today. Let’s wait and see.
