Apple officially rolled out their latest software update the iOS 5 on the 12th of October, 2011 and jailbreakers wasted no time in releasing a jailbreak for this OS. According to a post by Dev-Team-Blog, redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.9b5 to include the public URLs for the IPSW files. redsn0w is a jailbreak tool that allows the jailbreaking that is based on an iBoot exploit like Limera1n exploit or pwnage 2.0.

With this update one can jailbreak their iOS 5 running iDevices and as of now, this update is incomplete. A statement from the post reads, “It’s still a tethered jailbreak on all except the old-bootrom iPhone3GS, and it doesn’t apply to iPad2 or the upcoming iPhone4S. Because the jailbreak is currently only tethered for most devices, we’re not going to release a new PwnageTool yet.  Instead, we’ve decided to build some of PwnageTool’s functionality into redsn0w (since you need redsn0w to “Just boot tethered” on every power cycle anyway).”

This update is designed for developers who make apps for jailbroken iDevices and one should proceed with caution while updating their gadgets. This update is available for both Windows and Mac. For more information on the redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 5, click here.
