If you’re hankering for some Resistance on your new PlayStation Vita you’ll be glad to know that Resistance: Burning Skies will be available by the 29th of May 2012.

Resistance: Burning Skies is a first person shooter that takes place in the developer Insomniac Games’ sci-fi universe between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. Players step into the boots of Tom Riley, a New York based firefighter who must protect America against the dreaded Chimera.

The game is being developed by Nihilistic Software, the same bunch of dudes who developed 2007’s enjoyable yet flawed Conan game as well as the more recent PlayStation Heroes. Incidentally, Insomniac Games, the guys behind all three Resistance games on the PlayStation 3 have passed over development of this franchise to Nihilistic. We’re not too sure if Nihilistic plan on developing more Resistance games for handheld consoles or will eventually move on to the PlayStation 3 but if Resistance Retribution is anything to go by, Burning Skies should be a ton of fun.
