Nikesh Arora heads all things money at Google. When a product is ready to be monetized, Arora steps in. The key phrase though is ‘ready’. For as he put it ‘getting a dollar from a billion users is easier than getting 10 dollars from a million.’
Arora therefore is handling perhaps the most influential products across the internet spectrum – from Search and YouTube, to Google Now and of course, it’s latest innovation – Glass.
While we’ve had a taste of the potentital of Google Now, Google Glass until today, had been an experience that we could only experience second hand – through pictures and video. This therefore raised a number of questions – how would it look? would it be intrusive? will it work? why would I wear it? and of course… what would it replace?
We tried it earlier today with Arora, and here is a quick review:
One, no it isn’t intrusive. The powerful little screen is placed just at the top of your right eye. You can move it up and and off your eye.
Design- it’s stunning. Glass is light and sits as comfortably on the nose as frames. That the little screen is such a powerful piece of computing stands testament to some hugely agile engineering.
Capability – when I wore it I could see utility aspects such as time, how long it would take to travel from central Delhi to Gurgaon (Google Now integration) as well as email and messages.
Multimedia: Video and images are very clear too. I could shoot Nikesh Arora with pretty impressive clarity and share it.
Finally – this he says is just the beginning. The device will be opened up to developers who will likely open up a box of new ideas and ways of using it.
As Arora says – don’t view this as another aspect of mobility – view it as a screen talking to another.
