When Research in Motion had introduced their BlackBerry PlayBook last year, they had made the tablet available in three storage capacites – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Towards the end of last year, Research in Motion slashed the rates of their slates and the lowest model, the 16GB version was available for as low as Rs. 13,490, as part of a limited time offer and there isn't a lot of difference in the discounted price and the existing price and this gives potential tablet consumers the option of picking up a tablet from a big brand at quite a low price. However, Research in Motion has now killed off the 16GB version of the BlackBerry PlayBook, disappointing several hopefuls.

BlackBerry Playbook coming to India!

No more 16GB BlackBerry Playbook

A report by Engadget, carrying an official statement states, “RIM will no longer be making the 16 GB model of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The 16 GB PlayBook will continue to be available for distributors and retailers while quantities last. We continue to remain committed to the tablet space and the 32 GB and 64 GB models of the BlackBerry PlayBook continue to be available from our distributors and retailers around the world. There is more value for our customers in the higher capacity models (32 GB, 64 GB), and as such we have decided to focus our efforts here.”

It looks like Research in Motion has dashed one’s hopes of picking up the 16GB PlayBook and would now have to settle for either the 32GB or 64GB model of the device. For those who are interested in purchasing the BlackBerry PlayBook, here is a quick look at its highlighted features.
