The Galaxy Gear smartwatch by Samsung will be launched on 4 September along with the Galaxy Note III, according to a new report in The Korea Times.

The report has an exclusive interview with Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business who confirmed the launch of the device on 4 September and said that the smartwatch, named Galaxy Gear, will use a “non-flexible display.”

“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept 4,” Lee is quoted as saying.

The Galaxy Gear smartwatch is likely to run on Android and will probably be a complementary device to Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone range.

As far as the Galaxy Note III rumour mills are concerned the decide will reportedly come with an Octa-core Exynos 5420 (eight-core processor)/Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM, 1080p display for a 5.7 or 6-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera possibly with optical image stabilization, LTE-A (LTE-Advanced), and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The smartphone could also come with better controls for the Stylus pen. More on thathere.

For now it seems that Samsung will indeed beat its arch-rival Apple in launching a smartwatch first.
