There were numerous reports over the past course of the month that indicated that the next flagship smartphone from Samsung which is the upcoming Galaxy S III would be officially announced at the Mobile World Conference event later on this month. There had been indications in the past that claimed that the Galaxy S III would be postponed to a later date after MWC but there was no official word regarding the same. However, for all those waiting for the next flagship from Samsung, TechRadar reports that the brand would not be showing off this handset at the event.

The wait for the S III has increased some more

Samsung states, “Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product. Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.”

Though Samsung may not introduce the smartphone at the event, rumours suggest that the brand will announce the smartphone during the first quarter of the year with April appearing as the possible launch date. This was stated by Russian tech blogger, Eldar Murtazin who has a fairly good track record regarding smartphone rumours. As of now, there are not many specifications to go by regarding the upcoming handset, but Murtazin indicates that he had the Galaxy S III with him and offered a few of its features. The Samsung Galaxy S III is said to pack a speedy 1.5-1.6GHz quad-core processor, a 12 megapixel camera, an HD resolution display and will be running on Google’s latest operating software – Ice Cream Sandwich.

The delay of the handset may be a good strategical move as one would not need to wait for a long amount of time before the handset is announced and the commercial availability. On the other hand, the report indicates that the possible delay in launching the product could be to rival Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 which is expected to be announced by July this year. Whatever the decision may be, the delay in introducing the handset does not come as good news for those looking to purchase the next flagship from Samsung.
