Samsung may showcase its Super AMOLED displays at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 scheduled to be held in January. Samsung may also unveil its next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S IV at the event.

According to a report by Pocket-Lint, rumours indicate that Samsung could introduce a new smartphone at the show. “Putting two and two together to make five, news outlets and blogs got themselves in a flurry of excitement over the weekend, following a story first published in Asia Economics. It reported on Friday that Samsung was planning to introduce a smartphone with a large 1920 x 1080 resolution display at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in January.”

The successor to the S III may come sooner than expected

This has led to speculation that Samsung could reschedule the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S IV, and unveil it at CES 2013 in January instead of in February or March at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event as previously believed. This move could also work in its favour as it could build up from the momentum of the highly successful Samsung Galaxy Note II, and the record-breaking Samsung Galaxy S III.

If Samsung does introduce the Samsung Galaxy S IV at CES, it would come just eight months after the unveiling of the current flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III.

Samsung is preparing to introduce a 4.99-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p at the CES 2013. The display will, in all likelihood, be mass produced in the first quarter of 2013. It will be used in Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S IV. While it is speculated that the S IV will debut at the CES, an unnamed Samsung official has reportedly said that it will be unvieled at the MWC event scheduled to be held in Barcelona.

Commenting on the display, an official at Samsung Display said, “It has more than 100 pixels per inch more than the Apple iPhone’s 326 ppi stretched beyond the limits of the human eye level.”

The Samsung Galaxy S IV is touted to be Samsung's next flagship smartphone after the Galaxy S III. The last heard rumour about the handset comes via SamMobile, which sourced the information from DDaily that the Galaxy S IV will feature the new Samsung Exynos 5450 processor. The S IV is expected to feature a lot of improvements over the S III, the most notable being the increase in the size of the display. An anonymous Samsung source had stated that the display size will be 5 inches, and it might feature flexible display technology. The source went on to state that Samsung intends to implement the one-year product schedule and the Galaxy S IV may be the first product to match this strategy. The handset will feature the rectangular styling with rounded corners found on the S III, but it is expected to have some external design changes.

If Samsung does launch a 1080p handset, it will directly compete against the yet to be released HTC Deluxe and an unnamed Lenovo smartphone, both of which feature this Full HD display.
