There's exactly a week to go for the Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement, but the leaks don't show any sign of stopping. A new set of alleged Galaxy S4 screenshots shows a slightly redesigned user interface, but we're left wanting more. The screenshots were published by GSM Israel, who claim to have received them from a very reliable and very anonymous source. The website claims these photographs are 100 percent authentic.
One of the screenshots shows a tabbed interface for Settings and a redesigned layout for each setting. The screenshots also show the familiar TouchWiz home screen, which we are bitterly disappointed about. We’ll tell you why.
These alleged Galaxy S4 screenshots show a redesigned Settings page
A screenshot of the Quick System Info PRO app proves that the display is indeed of the full HD, 1080p variety. The pixel density of the display is a high 441ppi. But it seems Samsung has decided not to use all that extra real estate to give us a better looking, denser home screen. At the moment, it’s looks too similar to the one on the Galaxy S3 to be called a step up.
The bottom dock houses five persistent shortcuts; we would have liked to see more shortcuts being used on the dock. The icons look far too big to be making good use of all the full HD glory of the display, and the widgets look too spaced out. All in all, this way, the home screen looks too sparse. Of course, there’s no telling how much will change from whenever these screens were taken until the announcement, but we are sitting with our fingers crossed for a better looking home screen.
All screenshots clearly show the 4G Icon highlighted as well as a bunch of new notification icons we will surely hear about in the coming days.
The screenshots are purportedly from the American version of the Galaxy S4. In one of the screenshots, the processor details show a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.8GHz, with 2GB of RAM. This configuration could change depending on the region the phone is, so Indian and European users might get a more powerful or an underpowered processor.
Once again, we have screenshots of the Smart Stay, Smart Rotation, Smart Pause and Smart Scroll settings pages. As reported yesterday, the latter two will be new additions to the Galaxy S4 experience.
There’s a screenshot of the camera interface too. Unfortunately, most settings cannot be seen, but we do get a glimpse of the image sizes users will be able to click with the Galaxy S4. The maximum setting is 13 megapixels and the resulting image will measure 4128 x 3096 pixels and have a 4:3 aspect ratio. For 16:9 wide photos, users will have to dial down to 9.6-megapixel. The OS running on this particular device is Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, but word is the phone will be launched with 4.2.2 out of the box.
We like the tabbed Settings page, but really hope that the home screen shown here is not the final version by a long shot. Do you like what you see? Let us know in the comments.
