Update: HomeShop18 has put Samsung Galaxy S4 up for pre-order as well. The online store will reserve stocks for a pre-order price of Rs. 5,000 and email you further details on how to go about acquiring a Samsung Galaxy S4 for yourself as the release date approaches.

If you were quivering at the thought of having to shell out Rs 59,990 for the brand new Galaxy S4, then there’s hope in the form of pre-orders. As we reported, the handset is up for sale for an exorbitant price at one online retailer. However, through pre-orders you can protect your bank balance and also ensure you get the first dibs on the Galaxy S4 when it arrives in India.

A retailer has put the new Samsung flagship on pre-order with the 16GB and 64GB version of the handset currently listed. You can book your S4 by paying a reasonable Rs 999 and will be getting a discount to that tune when the handset launches. The expected price of the phone, according to the website, is Rs 45,000, while the shipping date has been listed as May 1. Unfortunately, the 32GB version of the handset has not been listed and the 64GB version is only available in Frost White colour. Thankfully, both colour options in the 16GB model are listed.

The Galaxy S3 successor was announced last week and has been listed for pre-order elsewhere too. Amazon.de has put the handset up for pre-order and the undiscounted price of the S4 in Germany is 700 euros, which is around the same price quoted by the Indian pre-order listing.

The S4 improves on nearly all internals of the Galaxy S3 and also refreshes the nature-inspired design of the 2012 flagship, without changing a whole lot. No longer are the sides curved as in the S3; infact, Samsung has ensured mostly clean straight lines for its latest flagship. The sides get a silver trim, which make it look like brushed aluminium. In reality though, the handset is built using plastic and polycarbonate and at 130 g, it’s one of the lightest 5-inch handsets in the market right now.

In terms of hardware, the India-bound Galaxy S4 will be powered by the Exynos 5 Octa CPU, which has two quad-core processors running in-sync. The phone switches between the two depending on what task is at hand. The Cortex A7-based quad-core will take on the lighter, less intensive tasks, while any app or process that requires graphic rendering or heavy duty processor power will utilise the more powerful Cortex A15-based four-core processor.

Here are the key specs of the Samsung Galaxy S4:

  • 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display, 441 ppi
  • HSPA+, LTE, GPRS/EDGE
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot

  • GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS
  • NFC
  • MicroUSB 2.0  with MHL, USB On-the-go, USB Host

The Galaxy S4 will ship with the latest version of the OS, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Samsung has also revamped TouchWiz to add features like Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, S Health and touch-free gestures, Air View and Air Gesture. Besides these, the camera interface and software has also seen a refresh.
