Three TB Hard dish drives are not the latest things on the storage front. We have already seen Western Digital’s Caviar Green and joining Seagate’s Barracuda XT 3 TB, is another version of the same but with something better. While more data usually means more platters on an HDD, Seagate has managed to put in 1 TB on a single platter.
Everything on a platter
The Barracuda XT 3 TB had five platters with an areal density of 488 Gigabits per square inch, but Seagate has broken probably every record the industry and squeezed in a whopping 625 Gigabits per square inch in the current version. The GoFlex Desk hard disks will be the first to feature the new version and will come in capacities of 1 TB, 1.5 TB, 2 TB and finally 3 TB.
These external drives are also said to be compatible with both Mac and Windows platforms. The hard drives will have an NTFS driver which gives it the capability to interoperate between both the aforementioned platforms without reformatting the hard drive.
The prices haven’t been mentioned as such, but that shouldn’t be too far down the way now.
