Here’s some interesting news, I can’t really say its good news, but to an extent, I guess it isn’t too bad. Big players in the movie rental and sales business in India, Shemaroo Entertainment and Enlighten Film Association have decided to take classic Hindi cinema to the small screen and by that I don’t mean the television but think smaller. Mobiles it is.
With famous blockbuster hits like Mugal E Azam, Hrishikesh Mukherjee's classic comedy, Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Anand etc. in their list, the company is set to create a mode of speedy entertainment for the mobile users. Here’s the catch – all you’ll get is a specially edited 15-minute “teaser”. Why? So you can while away your time while traveling to work or waiting around for someone. Of course this streaming system is designed to work best for 3G users as buffering could be almost instantaneous.
I'd much rather rent it
But what really does a 15 minute clip of a famous movies do for you. Chances are, if your any fan of Indian cinema (and not many aren’t) you’ll have seen or own this movies in some form or other. I get the sentiment behind the service, however the company should realize, in metropolis’ like Mumbai, it takes a whole lot longer than 15 minutes to get from one place to another, even one that is just 15 minutes away. I even appreciate the idea of creating mobile friendly versions of these famous movies, but perhaps a 24-48 rent option would have been move viable to the public.
There’s no word on whether or not streaming these clips will be a free service or simply one that you pay your service provider with via bandwidth consumption.
