Sony’s NEX range of cameras have been pretty impressive on many fronts. The NEX-5, which we reviewed a few months back was solid, feature rich and not highly expensive. We liked it. Turns out there’s a new model – the NEX-7. There’s no official notice from Sony, but an Italian site – Minolta Sony Club has an image posted on their forum, which has a strong resemblance to the NEX-5 and NEX-3 cameras. The NEX-7 is said to take on Fuji’s X100 camera. The sensor on the NEX-7 is likely to be a 24 MP APS-C sensor. There are some strange bits on the camera, as well. For example, the image shows two large dials, presumably for the aperture and shutter speed controls.

A newer, even better model is coming

A newer, even better model is on its way..

The viewfinder on the NEX-7 is said to be at least 720p in resolution. There’s also an unconventional power on-off switch, which is very different from what Sony normally uses on their cameras. The NEX series is Sony’s attempt at creating a micro four third-like camera, but using a larger sensor size. Operation of the camera as we’ve seen is very simple, but the image quality is excellent. The NEX-7 should end up being the flagship model for the NEX range of cameras.
