SpaceX, a California-based organization has revealed its plans of making what they believe would be the most powerful rocket in the world. SpaceX’s claims aren't one in a vacuum. The organization has the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 to its credit, and therefore, its claim does hold some weight.
SpaceX, headed by PayPal co founder Elon Musk is under a contract with NASA, according to which it has to deliver cargo to the International Space Station using the Falcon 9 and the Dragon Space Capsule. The plans of the new, powerful rocket, called the Falcon Heavy were announced by Elon Musk in Washington D.C.
The Falcon Heavy will be expected to lift as much as 53 tonnes of weight to low earth orbit, a feat achieved by none before. The flight of the Falcon Heavy is expected to happen sometime in 2013 or 2014. Although not fixed for now, the Space X intends to use its latest rocket to carry satellites to geosynchronous orbit, to begin with.
Its ambitious plans also include sending astronauts to the moon or Mars, and obtain a NASA contract for the same.
