If your were a bit iffy about porting Siri over to your iPhone 4 or any other iOS 5 device, then this should help inspire some confidence. With the help of developers, Steven Troughton-Smith, Grant Paul (aka chpwn) and Ryan Petrich, we now have ‘Spire’, a free and more importantly, legal port of Siri.

Siri may be coming to older iOS devices as well

The perfect Siri port is almost here

In order for this to work, you’ll need a jailbroken iOS 5 device and Cydia up and running. Search and install the app from Cydia after which Siri will be downloaded. It's about 100 MB, so it's best if you're on Wi-Fi first. This method is said to work on an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, third and fourth generation iPod Touch and the iPad. Previous ports of Siri were deemed unsafe and also illegal as they involved distribution of Apple’s copyrighted code. Spire, on the other hand uses a different method to obtain files for Siri to work, which doesn’t infringe on Apple’s copyrighted materials.

We aren’t out of the woods, yet, as you’ll still need authorization to use Siri, so you’ll need some vital bits of information from a 4S to finish the trick. You’ll still need to setup a proxy server address for it to work and if your not sure how to do this, hit this link right here. A proper solution will only be available once the 4S has been jailbroken, which should eliminate the need for a proxy, but until then, this is your best bet.
