With the Mobile World Congress out of the way, many handset manufacturers had shown off their top-of-the-line wares, along with other mid and entry-level handsets. One manufacturer, who have managed to keep their flagship handset under extremely tight wraps is Samsung and the handset we are referring to here, is none other than the Galaxy S III. Rumours of the handset had sprung up earlier this year and many analysts believed that the handset would make its first appearance at MWC 2012. However, this was quickly shot down and the brand confirmed that the handset would be unveiled at a later date. In the past, there have been many mock-up images appearing online, prompting us on what to expect from the highly anticipated smartphone. Now, however, as per a report by GSMArena, who have obtained the image courtesy of Reddit, believe that this is the most convincing of images to date of the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Is this what the S III will look like?
From the leaked image, we can see that the handset has an edge-to-edge display, which is something that has been expected to feature on this Samsung flagship handset. Another notable mention is the loudspeaker at the bottom of the bezel and the front facing camera at the top. The website notes that these are features that are quite in line with Samsung’s designs, as opposed to the Photoshop renders of the device. Taking a look at the screenshot, we can see that the handset features the date 22nd March, along with the mention of an Unpacked Event. This could very well be the date of announcement of the Galaxy S III. The website goes on to state that the watermark associated with the image is that of Waber Shandwick, a PR company known for their association with Samsung.
However there may be a few inconsistencies with the image as well with the report stating, “First of all, the design is unlike the first two Galaxy S phones. The design of the S II was clearly an evolution of the first phone; it even had that bump on the back at the bottom. In comparison, this image of the Galaxy S III is very different from the first two phones, which strikes us as a bit odd. Secondly, the display has five icons on the screen near the bottom. The only Samsung phone that has five icons is the Galaxy Note, but only because it has a ginormous display that can accommodate them. Unless the Galaxy S III has a 5.0+ inch display, it would be unlikely that it would have five icons because then they would be too small. It also seems unlikely that Samsung would have two 5.0+ inch models at the same time. Clearly, that display segment is reserved for the Note.”
In addition to this, there is a camera shutter button located on the side of the handset and this is something that Samsung have not used with their recent line of Android handsets, in quite some time.
That being said, if this turns out to be true, then we have one stylish looking handset coming our way in the near future.
