Swype has been quite popular as an alternative keyboard option to the stock Android keyboard. Now, they’ve released an update to that application and they’re bringing in a whole new feature, Dragon Dictation. Also, the update will bring support for more than 50+ additional languages.
Voice to text!
Dragon Dictation is basically a voice to text feature that users can access directly within Swype. As a part of the update, there’s Advanced Language Modelling that will help increase the accuracy of word suggestions. This version of Swype + Dragon Dictation currently supports English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, but will be expanded to support additional languages in 2012. Besides this, Swype also allows users to download 50+ additional languages from the settings menu. To download the update, users may receive an update notification the next time their device checks in to the Swype Connect service. Alternatively, they can manually initiate this process by pressing the “Refresh” button in the Swype Connect section of Swype Settings. However, they’ve mentioned that updates may take more than 72 hours to download. More details about the update are available here.
