Namco Bandai have revealed the next mothership title in their Tales series – Tales of Xillia. The announcement was made via a new website for the game and came with a debut trailer, as well as some screens. Xillia will be the third Tales game this console generation and is a Playstation 3 exclusive for now, which means Namco have gone the full circle this gen with exclusivity – Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces were initially XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii exclusives respectively.
Xillia represents a collaboration of sorts within the Tales Studio, as their two development teams will work together for the first time. Adding to that is the fact that the game will feature not one, but two main characters and the storyline perspective will change depending on who you choose – Jude Mathis or Mira Maxwell – to play as at the start of the game. Jude is your mature, calm male lead while Mira is the fiery (I say that because she burns something down within the first 10 seconds of the trailer) female spirit.
From what little gameplay footage the trailer does have, you can see the game is nowhere near being the finished product. There are way too many jaggies and all of three people have been shown so far – the main characters and some generic fodder enemy. Still, Tales of Xillia is slated for a 2011 release and if it's anything like the other Tales games, you can expect a great real-time battle system, lots of puzzles and locales that are massive and beautiful. I for one am definitely pumped up for this, hopefully Namco will localize it. Oh and the PS3 versions of Vesperia and Graces while they're at it.
You can check out the official website for more information (warning: it's in Japanese), or watch the trailer below.
