Remember the tablet cum phone hybrid that Asus showcased at Computex 2011? Seems like it will finally see the light of the day in 2012 and it’s rumoured to run on a Tegra 3 processor like the Transformer Prime. But, here’s the difference, the Padfone will be the first smartphone to have so much processing power as compared to the Prime, which is a tablet. According to Engadget, the Padfone may come in the first quarter of 2012 and though we aren’t too sure about the full specs of the device, what’s a given is that the phone can be converted into a tablet.

Also, considering the fact that it’s coming early next year, it’s almost certain that it will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With Tegra 3 on a phone, that’s a whole load of processing power onto a little device. We’re hoping that they have an equally powerful battery to match up to that massive quad core goodness they’re aiming to give their users.
Things are looking pretty sunny at Asus’ end and they seem to be more of the leaders than the followers amongst the competitors in the Android world. If they are speeding up at this rate, one thing is for sure, dual core phones will soon be a thing of the past.
