An example of doing episodic gaming right is the Walking Dead series. Telltale is all set to release the latest episode of episodic game series – The Walking Dead. The latest episode, titled Around Every Corner, will be seeing a release on the Xbox 360 and PC this week. While the PlayStation Network store in the US will also have the game, the release date for the rest of the world when it comes to the PlayStation 3 is as of yet uncertain. The game will be seeing release on the Xbox 360 and PC on October 10. Telltale has released a trailer for Episode 4 of The Walking Dead.
In Episode 4, in the wake of terrible loss, the group arrives in Savannah in search of a boat and escape from the horrors around them. Stalked by an unseen human threat and the constant menace of the undead, Lee must decide how to deal with an increasingly paranoid group and above all, how to protect Clementine. The trailer gives some hints of the story, such as some mysterious “mad man” on the radio and a character, presumably a girl, dressed in red beats up the main character Lee. Along with the trailer, Telltale has also released some screenshots for The Walking Dead: Episode 4 – Around Every Corner.

Players can also buy each episode separately, with the latest episode costing $4.99 (around Rs 280). The episode will also be available on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) Wednesday, August 29 for 400 Microsoft Points (around Rs 280) as DLC (downloadable content) within the original The Walking Dead XBLA release and also on PC and MAC as part of a Season Pass on the Telltale Games Store, as well as through Steam and Origin.
Players who have read the graphic novel or seen the TV show will meet familiar characters such as Glenn in the game. There are also new characters that can live or die depending on the choices the player makes in each episode.
More people in trouble
The main story of the Walking Dead universe is that zombies have overrun most of America and a rag tag bunch of survivors must do whatever it takes to survive. The comics tread a very dark path by highlighting some truly unspeakable acts performed by the humans, as opposed to the zombies. Though the game’s tone isn’t quite that dark, there are still glimpses of it in the first episode.
