Xiaomi announced the opening of its first Mi Home store in Bengaluru today. The Mi Home store is an exclusive, offline retail store that showcases the best that Xiaomi has to offer in the country. These stores are present internationally.

Xiaomi claims that the store is marks a “significant milestone” in its offline retail strategy in the country.

Calling it an “internet+” and “new retail” approach, Xiaomi is hoping to leverage the convenience of offline shopping and the retail experience.

The Mi Home store will open to the public on 20 May and is located at Phoenix Market City, Bengaluru. Xiaomi’s entire range of available products in India will be sold there, and this includes the air purifier, headphones, power banks, etc.

The company plans to open 100 stores over the next two years.

Xiaomi’s offline strategy differs markedly from Chinese rivals Oppo and Vivo, who are slowly and steadily taking over the Indian market with a high-profile marketing campaign and investments in an offline supply chain.

Speaking at the launch, Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, “We are extremely excited to announce the first ever Mi Home in India, marking yet another important milestone in Xiaomi’s India journey.

We are using the lessons learnt from operating a very successful and lean online channel to offline retail via our Mi Home stores. Mi Home stores are built on our Internet+ new retail concept, and will have efficiencies similar to the online channel.

We will provide a phenomenal user experience, where Mi Fans will be able to browse and experience our products first-hand at their leisure, before making a purchase. Setting up offline stores will also help to make our products more readily available for buyers across the country.”
