The Xperia Play was officially launched at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, but its existence was known long before that. It was spotted in various corners of the globe, and was even on sale in China at one point! Nevertheless, following the official launch, Sony Ericsson is probably wanting to push it to as many parts of the Earth as possible, India included, if reports are to be believed.
April – Will it? Won't it?
According to AndroidOS.in’s “trusted sources”, Sony Ericsson India is planning on releasing the Xperia Play by the end of April, or early May. This means it will follow the release of the Xperia Arc and Neo, which are already getting pre-order listings in India.
In case you forgot, here are the specs of the Xperia Play:
- 1 GHz Scorpion ARMv7 CPU
- Adreno 205 GPU
- 4-inch capacitive multi-touchscreen at a resolution of 480×854
- Slide-out controls
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- 5 Megapixel Camera with autofocus and LED flash
- micro-USB port
- 8GB microSD card, expandable to 32GB
- 1,500mAh battery
The source expects the phone to be priced at around Rs. 34,000, which is rather steep, if you ask me. Either way, let’s wait and see what comes of this.
