Twitter has recently announced that a user will now be able to edit and refine their photos, right from the Twitter app itself. Twitter’s co-founder Jack Dorsey had recently teased a few images on his Twitter account that showed images with a black and white photo filter and this was evidence enough that the update to Twitter was coming soon and came it did, much sooner than expected.

As of now, it appears that only the Android version is available but in the blog post announcing this new feature, Twitter has specified that it will be available for the iPhone as well.

Commenting on this feature, Twitter states, “Every day, millions of people come to Twitter to connect with the things they care about and find out what’s happening around the world. As one of the most compelling forms of self-expression, photos have long been an important part of these experiences.”

With this update, Twitter introduces a few new ways to enhance the images that users tweet. They state that they have partnered with Aviary for powering these filters and effects.

Twitter has detailed four new enhancements which are Filters, Take a bird’s-eye view, Frame the action and Auto enhance. Commenting on each Twitter states that in Filters, a user will be apply one of the eight filters, ranging from black and white to vintage, to add a new look and feel to their photos.Take a bird’s eye view, will allow one to see how each filter would affect their photo in a single grid view, or swipe through looks to compare their options. Frame the action is where a user will now be able to crop and pinch to zoom in order to focus attention. In the Auto enhance mode, one can make the photos pop with balanced light and colours by tapping the wand.

Twitter, in the announcement goes on to state that in June, 2011, they introduced the ability to attach a photo to a Tweet – this was the first step toward improving the entire photo experience on Twitter. Since then they have been making it easier and faster to share and discover and enjoy great photos on Twitter every day.

Here is a list of features one can use through Twitter:

  • One can expand Tweets to view photos from various photo services right on Twitter
  • A user can preview photos directly in Discover and search
  • One can quickly swipe through images on Twitter with photo streams in profiles and search results

Twitter has also released a video to show off the new features.

It was recently reported that the Instagram versus Twitter tussle had reached new heights with Instagram disabling a feature that’s left their images on Twitter not showing up properly.

Since then, Instagram had cut its ties with Twitter and now if one would want to see their Instagram images on Twitter, they cannot do so, instead they are provided with a link which takes them to the Instagram website where the images can be easily viewed.

So with the latest update, one can have all their photo filters right from Twitter itself without the need of another application. To download this update, click here.
